What’s at Stake on November 8th for Libraries

With an estimated 200+ libraries on the ballot in November, and many well-financed opponents, we desperately need your support to our national efforts to educate voters, support library campaigns, and fight for libraries on Election Day.

With an estimated 200+ libraries on the ballot in November, and many well-financed opponents, we desperately need your support to our national efforts to educate voters, support library campaigns, and fight for libraries on Election Day.

We’re fighting hard for libraries that are facing a dramatically radicalized electorate this November. We’ve never seen an election like this in the United States and it could be devastating for libraries if we don’t step up and support them. There are millions of Americans who are mobilized to vote against the government in any way they can and that includes libraries. They don’t realize that libraries have a long rich history of standing up and fighting for liberty and freedom and the rights of Americans to improve their lives. They might not see that millions of citizens use the resources at the library to start small businesses or gain the skills they need for better jobs. And of course, they don’t understand that our children depend on libraries for storytimes and access to books and databases to get ahead in reading and in school. Our country runs on libraries.

We have a great history of success supporting libraries. We have won against bad statewide legislation in states like Michigan and Nebraska. We have stood up to government censorship in Virginia. But our best work has been supporting 41 library campaigns and helping libraries earn well over $100 million dollars in funding. In fact, we have returned $1,600 for every dollar we have spent on library campaigns and that means that for every $100 donation we receive we can turn that into $160,000 in stable library funding.

But in order to ensure that we can do our work so that libraries can continue to serve their communities, we need you. Because we are a people powered PAC for libraries, there are a few things you can do to get involved and fight for libraries. We would love if you shared our action platform for libraries on Facebook and Twitter and asked your friends and family if they can sign up to support libraries or sign one of our petitions for libraries. And of course, we rely on your donor support to put these petitions in front of communities and to educate voters about the need for libraries. Please make a $5-10 per month donation today or a larger one-time donation. We are counting on you. Please don't let this opportunity slip.
