Over 650 libraries across the US and Canada will celebrate this year.
On February 1, 2025, over 650 libraries across the US and Canada will celebrate Take Your Child to the Library Day. Now in its 14th year, this annual event is a wonderful opportunity for children to have fun while parents and caregivers learn more about their library. Take Your Child to the Library Day will showcase all the free resources local public libraries provide for families.
In 2024, hundreds of libraries hosted thousands of families for free and family-friendly events that encouraged families to make reading a part of their lives. In 2025, Take Your Child to the Library Day will see libraries hosting free activities, games, and reading opportunities all across the country. While festivities vary from library to library, Take Your Child to the Library Day celebrates every library's importance in children's and families' lives. For example, the Bristol Public Library in Bristol, CT. will showcase readings by local authors and “meet & greet” with Peppa Pig. The Hamilton East Public Library in Fishers, IN. will host a scavenger hunt, photo ops, themed book bundles, and giveaways. The Orem Public Library in Orem, UT. plans to celebrate Take Your Child to the Library Day and kick off Library Lovers Month by exploring by hosting a day filled with crafts, games, storytimes, and scavenger hunts. The Covina Public Library in Covina, CA. will feature arts and crafts activities, games, and local author visits alongside family storytime.
Take Your Child to the Library Day is supported by the Connecticut Library Consortium. Since its launch in 2011, TYCLD events have been held annually in the US and Canada. EveryLibrary has partnered with Take Your Child to the Library Day as a national organizational partner. Libraries help families build solid foundations of literacy and love of learning by providing access to books, early literacy storytimes, technology, homework help, online resources, fun, safe spaces, and more. Through this partnership, we aim to help spread the word about Take Your Child to the Library Day and encourage libraries and families to participate.
