Were you one of the 300+ librarians featured in the 2016 book that began with Kyle Cassidy’s viral Slate Magazine photo essay, photographed 11 years ago at the 2014 ALA Midwinter Meeting right here in Philadelphia? Or would you like to reconnect with this inspiring community? Come join us!
This is What a Librarian Looks Like was not only a heartfelt love letter to libraries—it was a thunderclap in the world of library advocacy, and continues to this day to show skeptical politicians and anyone who thought libraries were just about books, or obsolete in the internet age, the true breadth and impact of what libraries do.
Through your stories and portraits, the project powerfully illustrated how libraries support communities, foster lifelong learning, and continually adapt to meet changing needs.
Join Kyle and fellow librarians for an informal evening to catch up, share what’s new in your lives and libraries, and celebrate the essential work of libraries everywhere.
Whether you were featured in the book or not, you’re warmly invited to stop by and be part of the conversation.
We’ll be gathering at the Sofitel Hotel bar on Saturday, June 28th, between 5 and 7 PM. Hope to see you there.
