Is Your Library Taking Part In National Voter Registration Day?

National Voter Registration Day is September 27th, 2016 and we're calling on public libraries to sign up and add their location as a voter registration site.

Previously, with these efforts, we've been able to generate some interest with volunteers and local library communities. This year, we are extremely excited to be partnering with NVLD and led by the expertise of Nicole Powell to bring National Voter Registration Day to libraries in a much bigger way. We want libraries across the country to register with this link to take part in this huge event.

The first step to voting is getting registered to vote. Anyone who is at least 18 years old on Election Day and a citizen of the U.S. can register to vote. If someone has moved, they need to reregister at their new address. Many people can now also register to vote online. A public library is the perfect venue to provide this important service that contributes to our nation's democratic process.

NVDR is a fun way to get your library involved in voter registration efforts and to get your staff informed of the basics on your local elections. Being educated and prepared about voter registration basics will lay some groundwork for when your local library may be on the ballot. A well-trained and comfortable staff is a huge asset during your library’s election. That’s why we are putting together material to answer your questions and train your staff to handle any questions that come their way.
