In November 2021, EveryLibrary celebrated passing a multi-million dollar building bond to expand the Southington, CT, library. We provided extensive pro-bono support to the library board and staff on the Information Only campaigns and free campaign consulting to the Vote Yes for the New Southington Library Committee. The bond, along with private donors and a contribution from the city, has enabled the library to expand its physical space and enhance its offerings to the community.
Last December, the Southington Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously approved a revised site plan. This new plan enhances the library's aesthetic appeal and adds 4,740 square feet to its original footprint, bringing the total to 28,740 square feet. The plans include a relocated children's library and new outdoor facilities, perfect for seating and outdoor reading sessions.
Seeing the Southington Library expansion move forward is a reminder of why we do what we do here at EveryLibrary. We are able to show up and amplify good ideas like this new library. It shows what the power of community organizing and ballot advocacy can do. We are immensely proud of our role in this effort and grateful to our donors, whose generosity enabled us to support this crucial campaign. This project is more than just a building; it's a library for the future of Southington.
