Signing up library supporters across the country!

This year, EveryLibrary teamed up with Crossroads Campaigns to spread our advocacy mission through canvassing actions in Washington, DC and New York, NY. Each canvassing action occurred over the course of a weekend and spread our message of library advocacy to attendees of the annual ALA Conference and New York Comic Con.

With teams of 5-7 canvassers, we gathered signatures and handed out educational materials to over 3,000 individuals over the two weekends. From signing the pledge to #VoteLibraries in 2020 to sending an email to their representatives in Congress, our canvassing actions were aimed at educating the public about the issues libraries face as well as bringing them onto our nationwide team of library supporters.

“We believe canvassing has the power to connect personally with new supporters in ways that electronic communications fail,” said Development Director, Michael Parchinsky. “Libraries are for the people but very few understand their full array of services,” he continued, “our mission with these canvassing actions was to educate people as well as get them involved in our fight for libraries.”

Canvassing is a unique opportunity to interact with and gain feedback from a wide array of different kinds of people. We look forward to 2020 and conducting many more canvassing actions in the name of educating and spreading awareness of one of the most serious crisis’s of our time.
