Signing on to Fund the Institute of Museum and Library Services
EveryLibrary is proud to join a coalition of national library, museum, archival, and cultural organizations in signing a letter to Congress urging robust federal funding for the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) in Fiscal Year 2027.
The letter, coordinated by a coalition of national partners, calls on members of the House and Senate Appropriations Committees to strengthen federal investments in the programs that support libraries, museums, and archives in every state and territory.
Please help us support IMLS by signing and sharing the petition on Facebook, Bluesky, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Threads.
Libraries are essential civic institutions. They provide free access to information, workforce development resources, broadband connectivity, literacy programs, educational opportunities, and community services that millions of Americans depend on every day.
Federal support through IMLS, particularly through the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA), helps sustain these services in urban, suburban, rural, and Tribal communities across the country.
At a time when the Administration has proposed eliminating IMLS entirely, EveryLibrary believes Congress must reaffirm its longstanding bipartisan commitment to libraries and the communities they serve.
Federal library funding represents a tiny fraction of the federal budget, yet it delivers extraordinary returns by supporting lifelong learning, workforce readiness, digital inclusion, educational opportunity, and civic participation.
We built all the tools you need to save IMLS at SaveIMLS.org.
"Americans rely on libraries as trusted institutions that strengthen communities, expand opportunity, and protect access to information," said John Chrastka, EveryLibrary Executive Director. "We are proud to stand alongside our national partners in urging Congress to reject efforts to weaken IMLS and instead provide the funding necessary to ensure libraries remain strong and accessible for future generations."
EveryLibrary encourages library supporters, trustees, library workers, educators, and community leaders to contact their members of Congress and urge support for strong FY2027 funding for the Institute of Museum and Library Services through the Library Services and Technology Act.
Libraries matter. Communities depend on them. Congress must continue investing in them.
