Library Make ‘n’ Shake in New Orleans
We are thrilled to be a ‘presenting partner’ for the first ever Library Make ‘n’ Shake on Saturday, June 23rd in New Orleans.
We’re hosting two From Advocacy to Activism workshops that share what we know about the image of “The Librarian as Candidate”, and explore the latest voter data about libraries – and what to do about it. Our sessions, along with a dozen more lightning talks and workshops from a wide-ranging crew of organizations like the Foundation Center, the Library Collective, and publiclab.org - plus a great non-profit showcase - are free to attend. The venue, Howling Wolf, is 2 blocks from the convention center, so it’s easy to swing by for some learning, thinking, and networking.
Library Make ‘n’ Shake is an “off the books” project to convene new ideas from non-profits and library orgs around the country in a hands-on learning and networking environment. Sponsored the Knight Foundation, DPLA, the MIT Media Lab and History Pin, it’s being run concurrent with ALA Annual Conference, but you don’t need a conference badge to be a part of it. The bar is open all day, a New Orleans (free) lunch will be served at noon, and there’ll be Hansen's snoballs at 1pm. EveryLibrary is ‘on’ at 10am and at 1:30pm in The Den.
Library Make ‘n’ Shake
Saturday, June 23rd from 10a – 7p cdt
at The Howlin' Wolf
907 S Peters St. New Orleans, LA.
We are excited to be a part of this new kind of convening for the library community. It’s important to us to bring what we know about building voter support for library funding. But we are most excited to listen and learn from the other organizations. We’re staying through the Happy Hour (starting at 5pm) to hear the Stooges Brass Band, then we’re heading over to our own NOLA Beer & Boil party with Bibliotheca and SirsiDynix from 7p to 11p! Tickets are still available, but they are going fast.
Follow @lib_makenshake and #makenshake for news and updates about other workshops, lightning talks, and participating non-profit organizations. See you in New Orleans soon!
