CHICAGO (March 12, 2014) – EveryLibrary is pleased to announce that Library Journal has named Executive Director John Chrastka to its list of 2014 Movers & Shakers, in recognition of EveryLibrary’s work supporting libraries at the ballot box. John is one of eight selected in the category of Advocates.

Citing the more than $8.5 million in tax revenue secured for public libraries in EveryLibrary-sponsored ballot initiatives, Library Journal noted that EveryLibrary is currently the only national organization financing library voter campaigns. As a registered Political Action Committee, EveryLibrary can openly involve itself in election campaigns to a greater degree than other non-profits.

“It’s a distinct honor to be recognized by Library Journal among others whose work I respect and admire,” said Chrastka. “Our work depends on the strength of the library community and the passion of library advocates, and Library Journal plays an integral role in shaping conversations in this space.“

EveryLibrary was launched in September 2012 by John Chrastka with founding board members Erica Findley and Patrick Sweeney. Since then, EveryLibrary has seen the success of five voter campaigns to preserve or increase library funding. EveryLibrary counts hundreds of individuals among its backers, along with publishers, vendors and unions. Its board includes Peter Bromberg, who was named to the Library Journal Movers & Shakers list in 2008.
