We’re Introducing 150 Congressmen and Women to Librarians

We are excited to announce that we are introducing 150 Congressmen and Women to 220 librarians!

We are excited to announce that we are introducing 150 Congressmen and Women to 220 librarians!

That’s because so many of you supported our crowdfunding campaign to educate members of Congress about the importance of libraries and librarians. In fact, thanks to people like you, we raised $3,500 to send 150 copies of the Kyle Cassidy’s book, This Is What a Librarian Looks Like to members of Congress. While we weren’t able to raise the $13,375 needed to send the entire Senate and House of Representatives a copy of the book, we are sending one book to every Senator and to 50 members of the House starting with the top leadership and members of committees that are important to libraries. We are excited to reach so many politicians with a positive library message.

There’s Still Time To Help Us Send More!
If you haven’t supported this book project yet, there’s still time. We are leaving this campaign “live” until Friday but we are starting to ship the books today. If you or anyone you know wants to help us send more books to Congress and educate them about the work that librarians do, we encourage you to donate right now! Together we can make an impact for libraries.

You can still help us send more books until Friday, May 19th

Please join us to celebrate the book’s publication with author/photographer Kyle Cassidy, many of our friends, and librarians featured in the book! This event will also help EveryLibrary raise money to fund our fight for libraries at the ballot box across the country.

If You Don’t Know About This Important Book...
In this beautifully illustrated book, Kyle Cassidy has made it his mission to remind us of how essential librarians and libraries are to our communities. His subjects are librarians of all ages, backgrounds, and personal style–from pink hair and leather jackets to button-downs and blazers. The nearly 220 librarians photographed also share their personal thoughts on what it means to be a librarian. This is What A Librarian Looks Like also includes original essays by some of our most beloved writers, journalists, and commentators, including Neil Gaiman, George R.R. Martin, Nancy Pearl, Cory Doctorow, Paula Poundstone, Amanda Palmer, Peter Sagal, Jeff VanderMeer, John Scalzi, Sara Farizan, Amy Dickinson, and others. Cassidy also profiles a handful of especially influential librarians and libraries.
