You might not have read some of the recent press about the aggressive campaigns against American libraries but as we start moving into the 2016 presidential elections we are starting to see the anti-tax groups turn more of their resources against these great institutions.
The recent fights we have seen are just the beginning of what is becoming a more organized opposition to libraries in America and the wonderful services they provide to their communities. If you haven’t seen these campaigns, take a look at what happened to the school librarian in Chicago, SB571 in Michigan, the recent article in the Wall Street Journal, and the commissioner’s campaign Bethlehem Public Library in Pennsylvania.
EveryLibrary is one of the few organizations fighting back against each one of these un-American campaigns against our most American Institution. We are the Nation’s first and only Political Action Committee for libraries and we work to help libraries that are being threatened and to help strengthen the political position of libraries through voter action and community organizing. In fact, in the last three years we have helped over 30 libraries with their elections and political fights. From cities as large as New Orleans Louisiana to towns as small as Darby Montana we have helped libraries win over 60 million dollars in funding. In fact, for every dollar we have spent on a campaign, we have helped them win over $1,600 in stable money for new buildings or ongoing funding. Every $100 has helped a library win $160,000!
