The only reason someone would eliminate these critical open-government employees is to eliminate government transparency.

Government transparency is a cornerstone of democracy, ensuring citizens can access information about their government’s actions, decisions, and policies.

One of the most important mechanisms for maintaining transparency is the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), which grants the public the right to request access to government records.

The FOIA staff responsible for handling these requests is absolutely necessary to uphold transparency and government accountability.

FOIA staff process requests for information, locate relevant documents, and determine what can be disclosed under the law.

Investigative journalists, advocacy groups, researchers, and everyday citizens rely on FOIA requests to uncover information about government spending, policy decisions, and administrative actions.

This transparency helps prevent corruption, expose inefficiencies, and promote good governance. We need to see these positions restored.
