EveryLibrary, the nation’s first Political Action Committee for libraries, announces today its support for "Citizens for a New Shorewood-Troy Library" as they campaign for a new library building on the Illinois April 9th, 2013 ballot. This new library building will meet the space, collections, computer access, and programming needs of this the rapidly growing community in suburban Chicagoland. Voters will be asked to approve a “levy lift” of .13 cents per thousand dollars of property value in order to bond the costs of construction over 20 years. This will be the first levy change in the District since 1976.

EveryLibrary is pledging its financial support and providing campaign consultancy, technical assistance, and volunteer training to the “Citizens for a New Shorewood-Troy Library” committee. EveryLibrary is invested in the success of this voter awareness campaign. "The old Shorewood-Troy library is bursting at the seams," says John Chrastka, Executive Director of EveryLibrary. "This community needs a new library, one that will serve this rapidly growing community for a generations to come. Over 76,000 visitors used the Shorewood-Troy Public Library last year. Without homeowners investing an extra .14 per thousand in this levy lift, the old library will continue to underserve this vibrant community.”

"Citizens for a New Shorewood-Troy Library" is a citizens committee dedicated to ensuring that the Shorewood-Troy Public Library receives the funds it needs to build a new library through a levy lift on the April 9th, 2013 Illinois consolidated ballot. The committee has set up a website at www.newshorewoodtroylibrary.org/, a Facebook page at www.facebook.com/NewShorewoodTroyLibrary, and the library itself is hosting a "New Building Fact Sheet" at www.shorewood.lib.il.us/building.php.
