EveryLibrary, the first national Political Action Committee (PAC) for libraries, today announces its support for the library community in Spokane, Washington as they campaign for Proposition 3, a library levy on the February 12th, 2013 mail-in ballot.

This measure will dedicate much-needed funds to the daily operations of the city's main library and its branches. EveryLibrary is pledging $5,000 in financial support to the "Yes for Spokane Libraries" committee for voter education and get out the vote activities. Proposition 3 will ensure that library services remain open city-wide and that books, ebooks, public internet, children’s programming, and homework help remain available to all.

"The citizens of Spokane have an amazing library, but the current budget climate threatens the valuable services provided to the community," says John Chrastka, Executive Director of EveryLibrary. "We are pledging our support to "Yes for Spokane Libraries" to help ensure that Proposition 3 - which asks voters for .07 cents per thousand dollars of property value - passes on February 12th. Almost 950,000 visitors used the Spokane Public Library last year. Without Proposition 3 passing, branches could close, Downtown hours could be reduced, and the community will simply have fewer books, computers with internet access, and other materials."

"Yes for Spokane Libraries" is a citizens committee dedicated to ensuring that the Spokane Public Library receives the funds it needs to serve the community through Proposition 3. The committee has set up a Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/YesforSpokaneLibraries and the library itself is hosting a "Library Levy Election Fact Sheet" at http://www.spokanelibrary.org/index.php?page=prop3. EveryLibrary is a politically active organization and is supported by contributions from citizens nationwide who believe that libraries matter in our society.
