Endorsing “Yes for Plainfield Library”

EveryLibrary today announces our endorsement of the "Vote Yes for Plainfield Library” ballot initiative by the Citizens for a 21st Century Library Committee in Plainfield, Illinois on the March 15, 2016 ballot.

EveryLibrary today announces our endorsement of the "Vote Yes for Plainfield Library” ballot initiative by the Citizens for a 21st Century Library Committee in Plainfield, Illinois on the March 15, 2016 ballot.

As a national library advocacy organization, EveryLibrary has made a donation to the Committee to help them reach across neighborhoods and subdivisions in Plainfield, Bolingbrook, Romeoville, and Joliet because we believe a new library and operating levy will benefit all residents.  EveryLibrary is excited for the opportunity that Plainfield Public Library District voters have on March 15th.  A yes vote on both referendum questions will make for a long-lasting, strategic investment in learning and education in the community.

The current library in Plainfield does not adequately meet the needs of the community. The Plainfield Public Library District board and staff have developed a comprehensive expansion plan for a new, 21st century library. The planning process was open and inclusive.  They actively engaged the interests of library district residents and listened to the advice of experts in library facilities planning.  We are proud to support the Citizens Committee, a group of neighbors from around the library district, as they come together to support a "Yes" vote on both referendum questions regarding the library expansion for the March 15th, 2016 primary election.

We are supporting the "Vote Yes for Plainfield Library" ballot initiative for the operating levy because studies show that libraries’ "return on investment" is three to six times the operating cost to the communities. We are supporting the initiative for the bond to build the new library because a new library will be able to offer educational programs such as computer programming classes, enhanced early literacy programs, and expanded ESL/Citizenship classes. There will also be a gain in cultural programs such as art displays,  book signings, performances, community events, and much more that will make the community a more desirable place to live in now, and in the future.

Please join EveryLibrary in supporting the Citizens for a 21st Century Library Committee as they campaign for a Yes vote on both the building and operating referendum as a volunteer, a donor, or an endorser at http://www.voteforplainfieldlibrary.com/ and on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/voteforplainfieldlibrary/.
