Celebrating Election Hero Day 2026

EveryLibrary is proud to celebrate Election Hero Day on October 20, 2026, sponsored by the League of Women Voters.

Election Hero Day is a nonpartisan, nation-wide celebration recognizing election officials, their staff, poll workers, and the countless people whose service makes our democracy possible.

Local elections impact all aspects of your community, including funding for your local library and support for public schools. This is why we are encouraging all community members to celebrate the heroes who work hard to maintain the integrity of elections. Regardless of your personal political affiliation, you can celebrate Election Hero Day by remaining nonpartisan while uplifting your local election officials. If eligible, you can even become an Election Hero by serving as a poll worker or election official on Election Day.

Host an in-person celebration

From holding a forum with your election officials to delivering thank you notes to poll workers, you can celebrate election heroes in many ways. Learn more by downloading the Election Hero Day Toolkit!

Celebrate Virtually

Celebrating virtually can help you prevent barriers to access by creating accessible social media posts or reaching diverse audiences over email. Then, share your Election Hero Day story.

However you celebrate, it's important to highlight the role that everyone from the person who prints ballots for the local polling place to the chief local election administrator plays in protecting democracy.
