Why this matters

Banned Books Week lasts seven days. Book bans last all year.

Every fall, Banned Books Week fills up with displays, tote bags and clever slogans. We like all of it. But somewhere along the way the week started to feel like a celebration, and there is nothing to celebrate about a book being taken off a shelf.

A book ban means a student can't find the book they need. It means a librarian is threatened for doing their job. It means a small group of people decides what everyone else's family is allowed to read. None of that stops when the week is over.

EveryLibrary is the only national political action committee for libraries in the United States. Since 2012 we've helped libraries win $3.2 billion at the ballot box, defended over 100 communities against defunding and book ban campaigns, and worked alongside more than 150 school libraries fighting to keep their doors open. All of it is pro bono for the libraries. None of it is funded by libraries or tax dollars.

That is why we're asking for a monthly gift. The people trying to ban books work all year. Your monthly gift means we can too.

The socks are the part you wear. EveryLibrary is the part that fights.

Wear the socks. Fund the fight.

Start a monthly gift of $10, $18 or $25 and help stop book bans long after Banned Books Week is over.

Questions you might have

What do Paperback, Hardcover and First Edition mean?
They are just the names of our three giving levels. You are not buying a book. Each level is a monthly donation, and the thank-you gifts you receive are shown with each level above.
When do I pick my socks?
On the next page, after you choose your giving level. At $10 a month you pick one of the four designs. At $18 and $25 a month you pick two.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. Cancel from your account dashboard or by emailing us. No phone trees, no hoops.
Where does my money go?
EveryLibrary is the country's only national political action committee for libraries. Your monthly support funds advocacy on book bans, library defunding fights, school librarian protection, and federal threats to IMLS. We work in every state, every year.
Is this tax-deductible?
No. EveryLibrary is a 501(c)(4) social welfare organization, which means donations are not tax-deductible. The tradeoff is that we can do political advocacy that 501(c)(3) organizations can't. If you want a tax-deductible gift, support our sister organization, EveryLibrary Institute (EIN 81-4351204).
Who makes the socks and hat?
They are made by Out of Print, a company that makes clothing and gifts for book lovers.
