The Eighth Circuit upheld Arkansas Act 372. Librarians now face criminal charges for library books. Donate to fund the defense and stop copycat laws.
DEFEND ARKANSAS LIBRARIANS
Librarians in Arkansas are asking whether they can be arrested for the books on their shelves. They are not overreacting. On July 30, the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals allowed Arkansas Public Act 372 to take effect. Handing the wrong book to a minor is now a crime punishable by up to a year in jail, and the law never defines which books those are. It does not stop at librarians either. A teacher, a parent, a volunteer at a book sale, any Arkansan is exposed.
Our colleagues there should not have to fight alone. This rapid response fund supports the push to repeal Public Act 372 and prepares us for January, when copycat bills land in Texas, Alabama, Montana, Wyoming, New Hampshire, and other states.
