EveryLibrary is excited to announce that Nicole Powell will be joining our list of advisers.

She is specifically taking a role advising and advocating for libraries to take a more active role in voter registration activities in their communities. Nicole has advised us for the previous two years about voter registration in libraries and has been instrumental in helping us add the capacity we need to become a partner with National Voter Registration Day. Nicole has many years of experience as an organizer of nonpartisan voter drives as shown in her Bio:

Nicole Powell is a branch supervisor for the Sacramento Public Library. Nicole has been involved with nonpartisan voter registration drives for 16 years. In 2004, Nicole served as the minority relations Outreach Team Leader for Rock the vote and Rap the Vote in Kansas City, Missouri. She worked with Project Vote, ACORN and local media outlets to bring hip hop events, political rap battles and special concerts to the area. Rap the Vote efforts and get-out-the-vote campaigns contributed to a significant increase of youth voter turnout from the all-black neighborhoods of eastside Kansas City, Missouri during the 2004 Presidential election. Nicole continued to serve as Kansas City Rock the Vote team Leader through 2008. Starting as a Deputy Registar in 1999, Nicole has been advocating for voter registration drives in libraries from Missouri to California. Nicole has been published in Ink magazine.
