At EveryLibrary, we are constantly seeking to build support for library funding in the United States. We aim to provide the tools, data, research, funding, and resources, that libraries need to advocate for themselves at no-cost to the libraries we work with. But there is so much more work to be done. We need help from dedicated people like you who want to make a big difference for libraries, library workers, and library organizations.

EveryLibrary supports library specific campaigns and elections as well as local, federal, and state issues around libraries and information access. You should be interested in and have a passion for literacy, reading, information access, first amendment rights, and libraries. You should also be passionate about learning how to create political movements online and offline.

This is not the complete list of activities, but it helps us understand your interests and helps us ensure that you're working on something that you will find fulfilling.
We don’t expect you to have experience in politics or library advocacy! We’ll teach you everything you need to be successful and you’ll be able to have room for creativity and to explore areas that interest you. This is a volunteer role and we want you to enjoy it and put your passions to work to support libraries across the United States.
General Qualifications
- Must be passionate about politics and libraries or information access and first amendment rights.
- Must have working knowledge of entry-level programs such as the Microsoft suite of apps and some social media knowledge and understanding.
- Must be comfortable around both PCs and Macs
- Strong time management skills a must, along with the ability to keep up with changing task prioritization in a fast-paced team environment.
- Willingness to work as part of a team and take creative direction from superiors and constructive criticism from other team members.
- Excellent attention to detail and superior communication skills.
- Willingness to communicate and work with other volunteers and staff on large projects.
- Self-motivated and excited to make a difference!
- Bi-lingual individuals are highly encouraged to apply!
While you may help support various programs and services in the organization, you will work closely with full time staff to accomplish these goals. You may take leadership roles upon completion of training and there may be opportunities for full or part-time employment for people who are successful.
These opportunities are our current listings, there are opportunities to work beyond these roles. Of course, all volunteers are expected to be fully committed to communicating with other teams and groups and engage with other people within the organization in order to complete projects.
Data
Our Data Volunteers are responsible for data cultivation, management, and maintenance. You will ensure that our database of library supports is kept up to date, clean, and accurate. There are opportunities for a wide range of research topics in this area as well. You will be given access to a number of big data sources and voter information in order to build data around library supporters and to identify and understand trends in voter support of libraries.
Donor Research and Cultivation
Our Donor Volunteers work with a team of individuals to use data sources to research potential donors to library causes and issues. We are looking for someone who is interested in taking an innovative approach to identifying donors across the country. These may be donors to specific actions for library causes such as supporting state wide or local legislation, local campaigns and elections, or project specific to help EveryLibrary meet the needs of national advocacy tools for libraries.
Design And Visual Media
Our Design and Digital Media Volunteers are responsible for managing our growing network of social media support for libraries. You will be in charge of creating compelling images, videos, and social media posts as well as scheduling and maintaining our wide network of social media profiles. You may have the opportunity to create content that is specific to local campaigns or more general content for national advocacy. We will teach you the underlying political and community organizing theory and social engineering to help you find small donors and identify supporters of library causes.
Grant Writing
Our Grant Writing Volunteers are primarily responsible for writing research grants for the EveryLibrary Institute. The Institute is a 501c3 organization that conducts research on library support in the United States. This organization also conducts training for librarians and library supporters as well as public education about library issues. The grant writing volunteer will research and write grants for these projects and others as needed.
Research
Our research volunteers primarily conduct opposition, supporter, legislative, political, local and national research in order to help us navigate the changing landscapes of American Politics and its influence on libraries and librarianship. There are a wide range of research opportunities. Research volunteers work closely with the Grant Writing and data volunteers to conduct research and generate data and information that can be used by libraries across the country to build support in their communities.
Event Coordination
Event coordinators are responsible for creating events and fundraisers for both EveryLibrary as well as local, state, and federal initiatives. These events can be small or large fundraisers, rallies, or other events as needed. Event coordinators have the opportunity to explore a wide range of event types as well as the marketing and invitations to attendees and the planning and execution of all aspects of the event to make sure that it is successful.
Administrative
Administrative volunteers are responsible for scheduling and planning of administrative tasks. These include arranging travel, filling reimbursements, tracking receipts, issuing checks, and filing invoices. These team members work closely with the administration of EveryLibrary to support a wide range of needs.
Social Media and Digital Content
The Social Media and Digital volunteers create articles, essays, blog posts, and other written content to support libraries and related issues in the United States. This is an opportunity to create high-impact content and get published on a wide variety of mediums. From in-print to online, you will create content that addresses opposition claims to library campaigns, create entertaining content for blog posts and journals, and draft fundraising emails or engaging petition content on legislative issues around librarianship.
Community Engagement and Volunteer
The community and volunteer volunteer will work to create online and offline communities of individuals who are interested in volunteering to build support for libraries. There are opportunities to work with a number of advanced digital platforms to create online communities of library supporters for specific local, state, or federal issues as well as general support for libraries. Here you will be responsible for the training, scheduling, and cultivation of volunteers across the country.
