Has your library ever faced a crisis? Was there a politician attacking the library or threatening to cut its budget? Was a program threatened or were library jobs on the line? Unfortunately, these types of problems happen to libraries all the time.
What if there was an organization that you could call upon to help prevent these crises from happening?
The good news is, there is! And for a few dollars a month, you can help...!
As the only national political action committee for libraries, EveryLibrary is ready to help any library anywhere when they face these kinds of tough challenges. As the national PAC for libraries, EveryLibrary has been activating communities to support their libraries in order to face - and overcome - crisis through our Rapid Response programs. We specialize in fast and effective digital advocacy campaigns that are aligned with what the librarians and library workers need.
You can make a difference personally for libraries facing political pressure or budget problems by becoming a Monthly Donors to Rapid Response Fund today. When a crisis strikes, it is critically important that the library can reach the public with its own story quickly. Here at EveryLibrary, we are uniquely positioned to help libraries respond to a crisis at a moment’s notice. In fact, we are able to answer the call and start a digital outreach campaign across a community - or around the country - within 24 hours.
From local budget problems to bad legislation that undermines the ability of a library to serve everyone equally, EveryLibrary has seen it all. We are proud to say that we have had tremendous positive impacts in small towns, big cities, and in state legislatures for libraries. We have shown up, listened to the local library stakeholders, and did the good work of activating the public in support of their agenda:
-
In LaFourche, LA., where the Parish chairman tried to defund the library in a snap election in order to build a jail.
-
For the Mary Vinson Library in Twin Lakes, GA. where the funding formula was under threat and closure loomed.
-
In Menominee County, MI., where the pressure to cut the library budget came from one commissioner who said, “I personally haven’t checked out a book in over 25 years” so no one would miss the library.
-
When the county commissioners in Citrus County, FL. took the culture war directly into the library’s collection by declaring that the New York Times was “Fake News” and cutting off funding for the digital issue.
- When Alaska’s Governor vetoed the core funding for the Online with Libraries (OWL) program that ensures critical funding for basic internet services through libraries across the state, and especially in remote areas.
When crises like these hit, EveryLibrary has the skills and the tools to mobilize thousands of people through our Action.EveryLibrary.org platform.
We always use paid advertising to activate new advocates for their libraries. Paid advertising on social media and through ad networks is necessary because in crisis situations it is vitally important to break through the noise. But we can only do this work with donor support.
Too many times we hear people say “If I had only known I would have helped”. It seems like every month, we read stories about attacks on libraries through bad legislation, defunding attempts, and the spread of misinformation. The Rapid Response Fund is designed to put smart, targeted, and effective pro-library communications out into the community quickly and effectively. A monthly donation to the Rapid Response Fund ensures that EveryLibrary has the ability to help reach across communities of any size to stand with librarians and library staff. As a monthly donor you will be a part of an unusual but highly effective national network of activists who want to see libraries succeed.
Please help us support libraries in crisis and save library jobs by becoming a monthly Rapid Response Fund donor today. Start your monthly donation now to ensure that you and your library can continue to count on EveryLibrary for their support during times of crisis.
