“The guidance EveryLibrary provided to staff and trustees on Information Only Campaigns, messaging, and the process was invaluable to us. All the more so because it was provided pro-bono. Their personal engagement helped allay fears and reassure us along the way, too. Thanks to EveryLibrary you for the great work you do for libraries.”

Jeannie Dilger, Executive Director, Palatine (IL) Public Library District

I am so unbelievably grateful for the help and support I was given by EveryLibrary. They got the word out at such a crucial point in the election, which is why our fight went national and then international.

Laura Sanders, Director, Lafourche Parish (LA) Public Library system

You and your team are doing great work and every librarian should be supporting EveryLibrary! I’ve made my contribution a recurring monthly donation and I wish you all the best. Thanks for the work that you’re doing and I am proud to put my support behind it!

Richard Huffine

Thanks for providing the vision and the leadership to create this incredibly valuable resource for libraries across the United States. Libraries have a long history of collaboration and cooperation in the development of services for our communities, and it’s time we stand together in the political arena as well. Cheers.

Derek Wolfgram

Brenda Crider, Director, Bucyrus Public Library

We're giving you the power to fight for your library!

We know this current administration and its supporters in various states are enacting legislation to arrest librarians, ban books, and defund libraries. Statement on Rescinding E.O. 14084

On day one of his new administration, President Trump revoked Executive Order 14084 on "Promoting the Arts, the Humanities, and Museum and Library Services", a 2022 action by the Biden Administration. This repeal has serious negative implications for libraries, museums, and the broader cultural sector.

Statement on Proposed Elimination of the South Dakota State Library and HB 1041 Enacting Legislation

EveryLibrary—the national political action committee for libraries—strongly opposes the proposed Fiscal Year 2026 budget cuts to the South Dakota State Library, as well as HB 1041, the enacting legislation that would allow South Dakota to refuse federal IMLS funding and effectively eliminate the State Library’s critical functions and responsibilities.

As State Legislative Sessions Kick Off, the Bad Bills Outpace Good Ones for Libraries and Readers

Several state legislatures gaveled their 2025 session into order last week A raft of new legislation was formally introduced and, in some bodies, referred to committees. The bad bills outnumber the good ones as of this first week of January. We are tracking all the states very closely this session and are directly and intently supporting several of our partner organizations.

Fighting for the Right to Read Week-by-Week in 2025

As the 2025 state legislative sessions start to kick off this week, EveryLibrary is tracking 26 bills that have been pre-filed in five states that would promote banning books with sexual and racial themes or criminalize librarians and educators. As more states start their sessions over the next few weeks, we expect that bill count to rise. In 2024, over 120 negative bills were introduced across 29 states. Texas, which leads the 2025 pre-file list with 14 anti-library and anti-reader bills, and Missouri, with its 4 negative bills, are early indicators that we need to be active and not just vigilant.

A Victory for Democracy and the Right to Read in Arkansas

Arkansas libraries have won an important First Amendment case when a federal judge ruled two key sections of Public Act 372 (SB81) were unconstitutional. This is a significant victory for libraries in Arkansas and stinging rebuke to censorship efforts in the state. The ruling by Judge Timothy Brooks safeguards access to diverse and meaningful materials in public libraries.
